The forsythia has bloomed and is now just beginning to leaf. The cooler weather here on Block Island has slowed things down considerably. This cottage sits near the corner of Old Town Road on Block Island and the strong shadows inspired me to sketch it.

The color ranges of spring on a slightly cloudy day is so lovely. The shad blooming and the sudden burst of spring blossoms abound. This little home sits overlooking Rodman's Hollow and appears lost in the dense blooms.

This summer cottage is located directly across the road from the ocean. The water you see in back of the house is a salt water tidal pond, You can often see clammers as well as an oyster farm from the back yard and a variety of shorebirds of all kinds.
Jessie Edwards is an artist living on Block Island. She owns and runs the Jessie Edwards Studio, a gallery which opened 26 years ago and specializes in regional fine art. During the off season she spends her time painting, drawing and catching up with aspects of her life which she has put aside during the hectic summer season. She plans to use this blog as a tool to encourage more self discipline and creativity by posting new work in it's various states of completion and as finished drawings and paintings for sale or just plain viewing.
